Common characteristics of all these sub-sectors are
- the low degree of final demand which comes from private households
- the dominance of small and medium sized enterprises in each of these
business service industries
- and the high importance of national or even regional markets for most of
these enterprises, as compared to the global markets in most manufacturing
industries.
E-business activities may have a severe impact especially on
those other business industries where information gathering, processing and
dissemination is a fundamental part of the overall service production process.
In these fields, e-business applications facilitate the creation of
international business services markets and - probably - will therefore heavily
affect the future size structure of enterprises in these industries.
