By e-Business W@tch in cooperation with IDC at the Next Generation Supply Chain Summit
The workshop took place as the afternoon session of IDC’s conference on Supply Chain Management in Milan, Italy on October 23. The main objective of the workshop was to discuss and validate the findings of the e-Business W@tch interim sector report on the state of play in RFID adoption and its benefits/problems for firms.
The workshop was introduced by Hasan Alkas, European Commission, DG Enterprise and Industry, and chaired by Gabriella Cattaneo, IDC EMEA, Director Competitiveness and Innovation Expertise Centre and Ivano Ortis, EMEA Research Director, IDC Global Retail Insights, author of the e-Business Watch study on RFID. The study, which was in focus of the workshop, is based on a decision-maker survey about this topic among 420 medium-sized and large companies and a range of case studies from different EU countries.
The session included an analysis of RFID best practices by Kim Knickle, Program Director, IDC Manufacturing Insights USA, and a European case study about RFID in healthcare, presented by Elena Sini, CIO, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumor . The session was closed by a panel discussion on the drivers-barriers of RFID adoption. Feedback and comments received from conference participants will be reflected in the final report. The final report with all survey results and case studies is expected for March 2008.
